Unknown error..can't keep playing!! Help!

Hey all! Ok, here's the deal. I have a saved game..for the second time. When i first install the game everything is ok. I can play all I want and then save it with no problems. However, when I come back to play, I can start off ok and after a few minutes tho, the game just shuts down and I get an error box with nothing in it. I'll attach a screen shot for ya. So the game just stops. I uninstalled it the first time it happened but saved my mechanic file so I could keep my saved game. I reinstalled and again I could play just fine the first time I started it. But again, once I restarted it, it messed up. So I uninstalled again and this time dicarded all my saved info..sigh...! Reinstalled AGAIN, and same thing happened. I believe I've updated everything and got the patches..I'm using Win XP. I updated my drivers and everything.

So, HELP me all!! Mad

Okay, that is a normal error for XP. First, try changing compatibilty settings (right click on the ghg icon and click properties, click the compatibilty tab, then select windows 98 or 95). If that doesn't work, try running the game on software graphics mode, rather than auto or DirectX (at the bottom of the launcher, the drop-down box).

I am having this same exact problem and I am using win 98se. I don't lose my saved info but it crashes and shows that same error box you get. Really ticks me off. I have updated the game completely and I updated my video card drivers to no avail. I will try updating the MB drivers next.

Yeah I've actually been getting the same problem. Its wierd too cause I've NEVER had a problem with GHG over the past 6 or 7 years.

For the life of me I cannot get this game to work right for some reason. I have reinstalled it 4 times and it works good for a while but then starts crashing again. I had 12 cars with one mechanic and started another mechanic so i could buy more cars. Thats when it started crashing this time. It is frustrating cause I love the game. I am running 98 se and it does'nt matter what I pick for video setting. I have downloaded the latest drivers for my motherboard and video card. My card is a 128MB ATI so it should be ok. i have a 256mb Geforce card coming. Gonna try and delete some cars then reinstall.

I've had problems with some addon cars/decals/paintjobs when i save them in my garage, but generally it just bugs the mechanic file.
It's been too long since i troubleshot GHG last, so i can't give you any proper answers. Are you using 3rd party cars, or is this happending to clean installs? If you are using 3rd party stuff (Decals, UI mods or cars) try a clean install.
Remember, you can add cars to an existing mechanic without problems, but if you're gonna remove something, make sure you sell all the parts in your inventory from the car in question before you do or it will break the save.

Could be a minor XP update that breaks it though, i have no idea. Just throwing out suggestions. Mr. Green
